Create Oxygen in Your Organization

Do you ever feel like nothing's going right in right in your life? Weight loss, wellness and extreme workout fads are on the rise in our society today, I am sure that if you have the world wide web or a television that you are familiar with just a few of these: Beach Body, Weight Watchers, Crossfit, Jenny Craig, Pilates, Barre, Tabata, Yoga, Paleo, Mud Runs … just to name a few. Are you guilty of trying one or several of these fads? The good news is, if you are, you are not alone. Ninety-five percent of Americans struggle to find a way to make their health a priority, which is why it’s not shocking that “more than 2 in 3 adults are considered to be overweight or obese” (Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 2009–2010).

For most of us, there aren’t enough hours in the day and life is simply moving too fast, but we have a solution and we challenge all employers to get on board! For all you employers out there, the solution and is in your hands. Americans need to be able to balance work and health and not have to choose one over the other. The solution, is offering ways that your employees can engage in physical activities while on the clock. Here’s a quick list of ideas to start incorporating into your office today.

  1. Walking Meetings: Encourage your employees to get out of the office and get fresh air. If a meeting can be done while power-walking, make it happen. Calories burned while multi-tasking are key!

  2. Stand-up/Treadmill Desks: Offer options for your employees who have to be behind a computer all day. You can make stand-up desks fairly cheaply and investing in a few treadmill desks will bring you more ROI than you know what to do with.

  3. On-site Exercise: Let the exercise come to you! Check out The Good Life! This is an easy way for everyone to join in at lunch and get a quick 60 minute workout in! Team building and cardio all in one!

  4. Soccer, Basketball, Kick-ball, Air-hockey.... Get Creative! Find ways to create teams with inside your organization that revolve around physical activity. Not only will your team member’s be grateful but they will be incorporating more fitness into their day!

A healthy, well balanced employee is much more productive than one that isn’t. In addition, there are health care savings to consider and employees who are healthy are less likely to use sick days and rack up absences. Still not convinced?
